The term host refers to any kind of computer, that is actually physically present among other hosts.

In the network term it means any device that has a network interface and is connected to a network via it. So this word can be used for smart devices, laptops, smartphones, computers or virtual machines, as long as they are on a network. A host must therefore have at least one network address.

In the gaming context, this term is rarely used to distinguish a guest system (inside a VM) and the system hosting the VM, the host.
