Some of the programs or games can be freely distributed on the net (e.g. Nexuiz or Balanced Annihilation). Since my upload used to be too limited, especially in the past below 100 kb/sec, I started to make it possible to distribute the whole thing via torrent, because all peers can help with the upload and their upload speeds up the process. So it is actually preferable to FTP as soon as more than one client is uploading at the same time. Two good clients are Azureus/Vuze and µTorrent.
This torrent client is written in Java, so it is available on various platforms. Its range of functions and settings is quite large. But it is also quite blky. You can get it here.
More or less the opposite of Azureus/Vuze is µTorrent. It is very small, has a quite good set of functions and is above all quite resource-friendly. You can find it here. Unfortunately the client seems to be available for Windows only. To get rid of the advertisement, which is shown in the program, there is a trick:
CTRL
+ P
,Advanced
offers
in the field Filter,offers.content_offer_autoexec
, offers.left_rail_offer_enabled
and offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled
to false
,offers.content_offer_url
to empty
.Now you are rid of this annoyance.
